Username checker for creators: video, music, art and writing
By FreeUsername · Reviewed · Editorial policy
If you publish under one name, you want it on the platforms where your work lives, not just on social apps. This group covers video (YouTube, Kick, Vimeo, Dailymotion), music (Spotify, SoundCloud), art and design portfolios, and writing platforms such as Medium, Substack, Tumblr and Wattpad.
The thing to watch on these sites is the difference between a display name and the unique part of your link. A YouTube channel name does not have to be unique, but the @handle in youtube.com/@handle does. Medium lets you show your name as a subdomain. Each page spells out which name the check looks at.
Creators usually need the same name on more than one kind of site: a video channel, a music or portfolio page, and a newsletter. Check all of them together on the home page before you print the name on anything, because changing a creator name later means updating every link in your old posts and descriptions.

What each checker can do, and the length rule from each platform's own help pages. "Live" means the page checks a name for you; "Guide" means the platform can't be checked automatically, so the page shows how to check it yourself.
| Platform | Check | Length rule |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube | Live | 3 to 30 characters for Latin-script handles (Han/Hangul: 1-10; Ethiopic, Hiragana and Katakana: 2-20). |
| Spotify | Guide | See page |
| Kick | Live | Kick's help center does not publish length or character limits. |
| Medium | Live | Medium's help center does not publish length or character limits; the settings form tells you when a name is not accepted. |
| SoundCloud | Live | Profile URLs must be 3 to 25 characters. |
| Tumblr | Live | Up to 32 characters. |
| Flickr | Live | Not published in Flickr's help center. |

Frequently asked questions
Which name does the YouTube check look at?
The @handle, because that is the unique one. Your channel name can match other channels, so it cannot be checked for availability.
Should I claim my name on every creator platform?
Claim it on the platforms you might publish on in the next year or two. Unused accounts are easy to forget, so note the logins somewhere safe.
What if my name is taken on one platform?
Add something that still reads well out loud, such as "studio", "art", "music" or your city. Each checker page lists the variations that platform allows.
Does a matching domain name matter for creators?
It is worth checking. A matching .com or .co gives you one link that you control even if a platform changes. The name checker shows usernames and domains side by side.
Is this creator username checker free?
Yes. There is no sign-up, and the names you check are not stored.
