How to Find a Pinterest Account by Username

A Pinterest username is the name in a profile's web address, pinterest.com/name. Pinterest's help center says it becomes your profile link, which is why shops print it on packaging and creators put it in their bios. The display name above the boards is a separate field and does not have to be unique.
If you know the username, you can usually find the account in a few seconds. This guide shows how, what to do when the link does not load, and how to set a username of your own.
Find a Pinterest profile from a username
Type the address straight into your browser:
https://www.pinterest.com/name/
If an account uses that name, you land on its profile with boards and pins. If nobody does, Pinterest usually sends you to its home page or shows a message that it could not find the page. A redirect to the home page is easy to miss, so check the address bar after the page loads.
Pinterest also runs local domains, such as pinterest.co.uk or pinterest.de. The username part is the same on each, so a profile link shared from another country still points to the same account.
Before you assume a link is broken, check the spelling against Pinterest's rules. Usernames can contain letters, numbers and underscores only. A link with a period or hyphen in the name part was probably mistyped.
Search inside Pinterest
If you only have a business or display name, use the search bar in Pinterest. Pinterest search is built around ideas and pins, so a plain search for a name often returns pins about the topic rather than the account you want. If the results offer a filter for profiles or people, use it.
When several profiles share a display name, compare the username under each one. That is the part only one account can hold. Brands often make it easier by linking their Pinterest profile from their website, which is a reliable way to confirm you have the right account.
Check if a Pinterest username is free
The manual test above tells you whether a public profile uses a name today. For a quicker check, our Pinterest username checker loads the profile address and lists Pinterest's published rules next to the result. Pinterest pages are built mostly in the browser, so our request sometimes comes back "Blocked" or "Unknown" when Pinterest serves a generic page. When that happens, open the link yourself.
The final answer comes from Pinterest. Type the name into the Username field in Edit profile, and Pinterest tells you whether you can have it. A name can fail even when no profile shows up, for example if it breaks the rules or belongs to an account you cannot see.
Pinterest's help center gives these rules:
- Between 3 and 30 characters.
- Letters only, or letters combined with numbers and underscores.
- No spaces, no punctuation, and not made up only of numbers.
The number rule catches people out. A name like 2024 will never pass, but shop2024 can.
Check the same name on other sites
If you run a shop or a creator account, you probably want your Pinterest username to match your Instagram, TikTok and Etsy names. The FreeUsername username search checks one name across 3,450+ sites in one go. It is free, there is no sign-up, and you can enter up to five usernames per search to compare options side by side. The name goes to our server only to run the check and is not stored or logged.
Results show as Found, Not found, Blocked or Unknown, and they are leads, not final answers. A "Not found" means we saw no public profile; the platform's own signup or edit form decides whether you can register the name. You can export results as JSON or CSV if you are tracking a brand launch. Our guide to how brands protect their handles covers that process in more detail.
How to change your Pinterest username
According to Pinterest Help, the steps are the same for personal and business accounts.
On the web
- Log in and click the settings icon at the bottom left.
- Select Settings, then Edit profile.
- Scroll to Username and enter the new name.
- Click Save.
In the app
- Tap your profile picture at the bottom right, then tap it again at the top left.
- Select View profile, then Edit profile.
- Enter the new name under Username and tap Done.
Your profile address changes with the username. Update the link anywhere you printed or posted it, including your website, email signature and product packaging, because the old address is tied to the old name and may not lead to your profile any more.
If the name you want is taken
Most of the time the name belongs to someone who signed up first, and the fix is a variation. An underscore between words, such as mia_bakes, is allowed. So is a short descriptor like shop, studio or designs. Business accounts often add a city or product line, which also tells people what they will find.
It is a different situation if an account uses your trademark or pretends to be your business. Pinterest has report forms for intellectual property and impersonation, and its policies allow it to act on usernames that break those rules. Collect screenshots and links first. Our post on protecting your brand name on social media walks through it.
More platform guides
Pinterest rules differ from those on the apps people usually pair it with. See finding an Instagram account by username and TikTok username search, or use the checker hub for single-platform checks.
